Couch to 5k and our Bank Holiday ‘adventures’

It’s fair to say that my running has dropped off since last year.  In fact, I had just started some rudimentary training for a spring half marathon in December 2018 when I found out I was pregnant and dropped the strenuous exercise, then alas the pregnancy wasn’t to be and so running was the last thing on my mind.  However, I missed it …….. well, in truth, it wasn’t exactly the running I missed as the thought that I was a ‘runner’ and the sense of achievement after the runs.

So, last week, I downloaded the Couch to 5k app and have started the journey back to running fitness.  So far I’m really enjoying the app, I have chosen Michael Johnson to be my coach and he is fab, and the mix of run/walk breaks is just right for a rather unfit lady in her 40s!  At the moment I’m just training on the treadmill, but I might try to hit the streets soon too.

We have also started our training in earnest for Ride London 2019.  As this weekend is a Bank Holiday in the UK we have been out for two rides, on Saturday we went out for a quick 10 miles and today we went out for 20.  We stopped for coffee half way through the ride today and I was chuffed to find that the café even had vegan cakes – result!

Yesterday we took the whippets out for a cracking walk around the National Trust sites of Great Coxwell Barn and Badbury Clump.  My lovely Dylan is 12 now and is definitely slowing down, but we still managed to walk for 4.5 miles.

Finally, a quick update on our palm oil free month.  All is going well so far and we have had some lovely homemade meals.  I guess the only downside is the extra time we’re having to spend in the kitchen, but we are getting to grips with batch cooking and are building an arsenal of pre-portioned meals in the freezer.

All in all, a very good week, now I’m off to catch up with Line of Duty!

Try doing parkrun. It is a great way to get into the running thing. I do the Swindon one and there are plenty of people building up.

  2. Thank you. I’ve done parkrun in the past but I’m not a huge fan of the 9am start on a Saturday!
